Mission Statement
The mission of the Aquinas Academy Library Media Center is to prepare students to become independent user of information, think critically, creatively, and independently when locating and evaluating information and technology.

The school library media center is a safe, welcoming atmosphere for all students, parents and faculty of Aquinas Academy.  The Library Media Specialist supports the curriculum by working collaboratively with the faculty to encourage all students to become independent, lifelong learners and users of libraries.  When students feel secure, accepted, and actively engaged in educational activities, they have greater success in learning.

Summer Reading Program
We maintain a voluntary summer reading program and summer Accelerated Reader quizzing sessions. These programs have recently been discussed with your child by his/her reading/literature teacher and the school librarian.

Suggested summer reading lists and reading log have been sent home by your child’s grade level teacher. Students will be permitted to take AR quizzes in the school library on the following Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 11:00 am: June 22, July 13, and August 3. Please be prompt. The monitoring teacher will not be available to stay after 11:15 am on each Wednesday.

The reading requirements for our voluntary reading program are as follows:

  1. Students entering first through third grades are required to read a minimum of 15 books (easy-to-read, picture books).
  2. Students entering fourth through sixth grades should read a minimum of five chapter books (beginning chapter books are acceptable for fourth grade).
  3. Don’t forget to list audiobooks and/or ebooks on the reading log.

Record the title and author’s name for each book completed. Send the completed reading log to your child’s 2016-2017 homeroom teacher on or before September 9, 2016 deadline. All participating students that meet the grade level requirements will receive a special prize sponsored by the school library media center. Recognition for reading achievement will be given to each child who successfully meets the above guidelines in the school newsletter.
